ViewLux Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a ViewLux paver driveway and a section has shifted, cracked, or settled, we stock ViewLux-compatible pavers and base materials here in San Antonio and can usually match your existing layout within a few days. A paver repair or partial replacement in San Antonio typically runs $700 to $4,800 depending on how many square feet are involved and whether the base layer needs re-compacting. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a paver rocks underfoot after a heavy rain, or a low spot appears where the car tires sit, or a corner paver has chipped from a delivery truck turning too tight.
Which ViewLux Paver Lines This Applies To

ViewLux manufactures its pavers in a few distinct series, and the compatibility question matters more than people expect. The two lines we see most often in San Antonio are the ViewLux Estate Series (larger-format pavers, usually 16″ x 16″ or 24″ x 24″, with a tumbled edge) and the ViewLux Promenade Series (smaller modular units, often 6″ x 9″ or 6″ x 6″, sold in multi-size bundles). They are not interchangeable. A Promenade paver will not sit level next to an Estate paver because the thickness differs, typically by a quarter inch or more. The easiest way to identify what you have is to lift one paver and look at the underside. ViewLux stamps the series name and a batch code there. If the stamp is worn, measure the thickness with a tape measure: Estate pavers run 60mm to 80mm thick, Promenade pavers run 40mm to 60mm. Write down that measurement before you call anyone, including us. It saves a trip.
One thing worth knowing: ViewLux has changed its color blending slightly across production years. Even within the same named color, like “Hill Country Tan” or “Limestone Grey,” a paver poured in 2019 will not be a perfect match to one poured in 2024. The difference is subtle, but in direct sunlight on a San Antonio afternoon, it shows. When we patch a section, we pull replacement pavers from the least visible edge of your own driveway first, then bring in new stock to fill the edge, where a slight tone difference reads as natural shading rather than a patch. That is a small thing, but it is the kind of thing that keeps a repair from looking like a repair.

Signs Your ViewLux Driveway Is Failing
- Rocking or wobbling pavers. A paver that tips when you step on it means the sand bedding layer has washed out beneath it. In San Antonio, this usually follows a hard rain on a driveway with poor edge restraint, or years of water running along the garage apron. Left alone, the rocking paver will eventually crack at its edges.
- Low spots that hold water after rain. Standing water is the tell that the compacted base underneath has settled. It is rarely the paver’s fault. ViewLux pavers are dense concrete units; they only settle when what is under them gives way. The fix usually means lifting the pavers, re-compacting the base, and re-screeding the sand.
- Chipped or spalled corners. ViewLux pavers sold today are color-through, not just dyed on the surface, so a small chip is cosmetic. But repeated chipping along a walkway edge points to a different problem: the pavers were cut too tight against a fixed surface and thermal expansion is crushing the corners. Texas heat does this. The fix is a relief cut and a flexible edge joint, not just swapping one paver.
- Weeds or ants pushing up between joints. This usually means the joint sand has been displaced and never replaced. Polymeric sand should be refreshed every few years in a San Antonio climate because UV and rain break down the binder. Ants are the worst of it here: they excavate the bedding sand and create voids that turn into sunken spots within a season.
- A gap opening along the border or garage lip. Edge restraint failure is the most common structural issue we see on ViewLux driveways in San Antonio. Once the plastic or aluminum edging pulls away, pavers begin to drift outward, joints widen, and the whole field loses interlock. It starts slowly and gets expensive if ignored.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included in San Antonio

What you pay depends on how much of the driveway is involved and whether the base below is still sound. A small repair of 20 to 40 square feet, where we lift, re-bed, and re-lay existing pavers, typically lands between $700 and $1,800. Replacing a larger section with new ViewLux-compatible pavers, including new bedding sand and joint sand, usually runs $1,800 to $4,800. If the compacted base has failed and we need to excavate, haul out material, and bring in new crushed limestone base like we would on a new build, the cost can reach the lower end of a full paver driveway installation, which in San Antonio runs $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, access, and whether we are matching an existing pattern or reworking the layout.
Every price we give is written down before any work starts. That is how Graham Stein has run jobs since his Trade-Tech days: the scope, the materials, the number. No line items appear after demo day. The written price you sign is the price you pay. And every repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the patch settles or a joint fails within a year, we come back and make it right without re-opening the invoice.

There are things you can check safely. Lifting one paver to read the stamp on the underside, measuring its thickness, counting how many are cracked, photographing the low spot after a rain so we can see the water pattern, all of that helps us quote accurately over the phone. What we would not recommend is digging out and re-compacting a base layer yourself. It is not dangerous the way a garage-door spring or a live electrical panel is. But it is easy to do wrong, and doing it wrong means the same pavers will settle again within a season. The base is the whole job. If that layer is not compacted in lifts with the right moisture content, nothing laid on top of it stays level. And pavers are heavy. A single Estate Series paver can weigh 60 pounds. Moving fifty of them by hand is how backs get hurt.
If you are unsure whether the base has failed or it is just a surface issue, call us at (432) 233-0976. We will ask for the measurements and photos, and we will tell you honestly whether it is a one-day repair or something bigger.
FAQs

A properly installed ViewLux paver driveway in San Antonio lasts 25 to 40 years before individual pavers typically need replacement, though the joint sand and edge restraints usually need refreshment every 3 to 5 years. The pavers themselves hold up well; it is the base and the joints that fail first. Call us at (432) 233-0976 if you are seeing early settling, and we will tell you what is actually going on under the surface.
A chipped ViewLux paver can sometimes be dressed with a color-matched repair compound, but a cracked paver should be replaced because the crack will telegraph through the joint and spread stress to the paver beside it. If we can harvest a matching paver from an edge of your own driveway and rotate it into the visible field, the repair will be nearly invisible. Call (432) 233-0976 with your paver’s underside stamp code and we will check availability before we schedule.
A small patch of 20 to 40 square feet is typically a one-day job in San Antonio, assuming the base below is still compacted and we are only re-bedding and re-laying pavers. If we need to excavate, install new base rock, and compact in lifts, expect two to three days including cure time for the joint sand. We will give you the timeline in writing at the same time we give you the price.
We keep a small amount of the most common ViewLux colors and sizes on hand, and we order directly from local Texas supply yards for anything uncommon, which usually adds two to five days to the schedule. We will also check if your exact batch code is still available, because older ViewLux production runs are not always restocked in the current color blend. Call (432) 233-0976 and we will look it up while you are on the line.
Why San Antonio Homeowners Call Us for ViewLux Work
We are Elmstead Remodeling San Antonio, an independent remodeling contractor, and we are not affiliated with ViewLux or any paver manufacturer. That independence means we recommend the right fix for the driveway, not the fix that moves inventory. We work the same way we do on every project: drop cloths where we stage materials, shoe covers if we walk through the house, quiet start times if you have kids napping, and a photo of the clean-up before the crew leaves. The C.A.R.E. values are real to us: clean up like it is our own home, ask before we move or touch anything, respect the family’s time and quiet hours, and explain the price before the work. Graham grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and he has worked enough San Antonio projects, including homes near the King William Historic District, to know that older neighborhoods demand patience with the original grading and drainage. Write it down, price it once, do it right. That is how the whole crew works.
