Sakrete Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

If your Sakrete driveway, walkway, or paver project has cracked, shifted, or begun to spall, we can replace or repair the affected sections and match the existing concrete as closely as the material allows. A typical Sakrete-based driveway repair or paver reset in San Antonio runs from $700 to $4,200 depending on square footage, base condition, and whether we’re patching, resurfacing, or pulling and re-bedding pavers. Most homeowners discover the failure the same way: a hairline crack widens after a hard rain, a paver sinks at the edge where the sprinkler oversprays, or the surface starts flaking after a winter cold snap followed by a fast warm-up.

We’re an independent San Antonio contractor, not affiliated with Sakrete or its parent company. That matters because we’ll tell you straight when a Sakrete product is still the right call for the repair and when a different mix or paver base will hold up better in our climate.

Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

Sakrete makes a wide range of bagged concrete, mortar, and paver products, and the failure pattern you’re seeing usually points to which product line was used. Homeowners in San Antonio most often bring us issues with Sakrete High Strength Concrete Mix (used for driveway slabs and walkway pours), Sakrete Sand Mix (used as a bedding layer under pavers), Sakrete Paver Set (polymeric sand for paver joints), and occasionally Sakrete Fast Setting Concrete Mix for fence posts or small pads adjacent to driveways. The bag label is the fastest way to identify what you have: look for the product name printed vertically on the front, the SKU number near the barcode, and the coverage chart on the back. For pavers themselves, Sakrete doesn’t manufacture pavers; they make the setting materials, so if a paver unit itself is cracked, we match the paver by measuring its exact dimensions, thickness, and color, then source a replacement from San Antonio paver suppliers who carry the common sizes.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Sakrete High Strength Concrete Mix reaches about 4,000 PSI when mixed correctly, but San Antonio’s hard water and summer heat can throw off the water-to-mix ratio during a DIY pour, leaving the surface more porous than the bag promises. That porosity is why we usually recommend a professional pour with a moisture-dampened base and proper curing blanket during June through August. For OEM versus aftermarket, there’s no meaningful aftermarket equivalent for bagged concrete; the bag is the part. Where aftermarket matters is the paver itself and the polymeric sand: we routinely use Techniseal or Alliance Gator polymeric sand instead of Sakrete Paver Set when the joints are wide or the pavers sit in full afternoon sun, because those brands hold a firmer joint in our freeze-thaw cycles.

Signs Your Sakrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks that widen after rain. Water gets under the slab, erodes the base, and the concrete flexes until the crack opens. In San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil on the north side, this is the most common driveway failure we see.
  • Surface flaking or chipping (spalling). Usually a sign the mix was poured too wet or cured too fast in the heat. The top layer separates from the body of the slab and starts peeling in sheets.
  • A paver that sinks at one corner or edge. The bedding sand has washed away, often from a downspout or sprinkler head pointed at the paver edge. Every time someone steps on that corner, the paver rocks and digs itself deeper.
  • Polymeric sand washing out of paver joints. If you sweep the joints and see sand filling the gaps after every hard rain, the polymeric binder has failed. This lets water reach the base layer and loosens the entire paver field.
  • White chalky residue on the surface (efflorescence). Water is moving through the slab and carrying minerals to the surface. It’s not a structural failure on its own, but it tells you water is where it shouldn’t be.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

For San Antonio homes, here’s what our Sakrete-related concrete and paver work typically runs:

Job Type Installed Price Range in San Antonio
Concrete driveway spot repair (crack fill, patch) $700 – $1,800
Concrete driveway section replacement $1,500 – $4,200
Paver reset (pull, re-bed, re-sand up to 200 sq ft) $1,200 – $3,500
Full paver driveway installation $7,000 – $18,000
Full concrete driveway installation $4,500 – $12,000
Driveway sealing $250 – $700

Every one of these prices is written down before any work starts, and that’s the price you pay. No line items added after demo day. The range depends on access, whether the existing base is salvageable, and how much of the old material has to be hauled off. We include all material, labor, base prep, haul-away, and the final clean-up in the written quote. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right after the job is complete, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: note where the cracks are widest, whether any pavers rock when you step on the corners, and if sand is washing out of the joints after rain. That information helps us give you a faster, more accurate written price over the phone. What we don’t recommend is pouring a structural driveway patch yourself in a San Antonio summer or resetting pavers without re-compacting the base. The heat dries the top layer of the mix before the bottom sets, and a paver field with a soft base will sink again within a year. Pouring concrete for a driveway is not the same as setting a fence post; a bad pour means tearing it all out and starting over. If you want the repair to last, call us at (432) 233-0976 and we’ll walk the driveway, name what’s wrong, and hand you a written scope before any tool leaves the truck.
