Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Quikrete driveway and paver work in San Antonio typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation, and we carry the Quikrete-compatible materials to match most existing pours and paver layouts. Most homeowners discover they need this page because a section of pavers has shifted after a Texas gully-washer, the edges are crumbling from years of reflected heat, or a new stain or crack has appeared where the driveway meets the garage slab. We stock the base materials, polymeric sand, and matching pavers on our trucks, and we can usually assess the job with a free estimate within a day or two of your call.
One thing worth knowing up front: San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts more than most people expect. That movement is the single biggest reason Quikrete paver driveways fail here, not the product itself. The pavers are fine. The base underneath them usually is not.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To

Quikrete makes their paver and driveway line in a few distinct families. The most common ones we see across San Antonio are the standard interlocking concrete pavers sold in pallet quantities through big-box stores, the Quikrete WalkMaker mold-poured sections, and their bagged concrete mixes poured as slabs. Each one fails differently and each one gets repaired differently.
The compatibility gotcha most people hit is thickness. Quikrete driveway-rated pavers are 60mm thick. Patio pavers, which are 30mm to 40mm, look nearly identical on the shelf but will crack under vehicle weight within a season. If you are matching an existing paver, flip one over and measure it before buying anything. We keep a micrometer in the truck for exactly this reason. Aftermarket pavers that match Quikrete’s dimensions and color blends are available, and we are happy to source them, but for a true match on anything older than five years we usually recommend ordering a fresh pallet of the same Quikrete line so the color variation from sun-bleaching does not make the patch look like a patch.
Elmstead Remodeling San Antonio is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Quikrete. We just install and repair their products often enough to know what holds up.

Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Are Failing
- Pavers rocking underfoot or under your tires. This means the bedding sand has migrated or washed out. The pavers themselves are usually fine, but the base needs to be re-leveled before the pavers start cracking from the movement.
- Gaps widening between pavers. Polymeric sand breaks down over time, especially under San Antonio’s UV exposure. Once the sand is gone, weeds move in and the pavers begin to drift. Re-sanding is a half-day fix if caught early; a full re-lay is needed if the drift has gone a year or more.
- Crumbling edges along the border. Border pavers take lateral pressure from every direction. Without a solid edge restraint, they crack from the outside in. We repair these by pulling the border course, resetting the restraint, and re-laying the edge.
- A sunken section, especially near the street or garage approach. This is almost always a base failure, not a paver failure. San Antonio’s clay soil shifts, and a base that was never compacted properly or lacks adequate drainage will settle. The fix is pulling the section, re-compacting the base, and re-laying.
- Efflorescence, the white chalky film, that keeps coming back. It is cosmetic, not structural, but it signals moisture moving through the pavers from below. If it returns after cleaning, the drainage under the driveway is the issue, not the surface.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A new paver driveway in San Antonio ranges from $7,000 to $18,000 installed. The spread comes down to three things: square footage, the condition of the existing base, and whether we are pulling an old driveway out first. A straight re-lay on a driveway where the base is sound sits at the lower end. A full tear-out of cracked concrete, new base material, proper compaction, and a fresh paver install on a sloped lot sits at the upper end.
Every quote includes the written price before any work starts. That price covers the pavers, bedding sand, polymeric joint sand, edge restraints, demolition and haul-away if needed, compaction, and cleanup. It does not grow after the crew arrives. I do not do change orders unless you ask us to change scope, and then you get the new number in writing before we touch it. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a paver shifts or a joint fails within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a single cracked paver or refreshing polymeric sand is something a patient homeowner can do on a Saturday with a rubber mallet, a level, and the right materials. Those are low-risk fixes.
Where DIY goes wrong is anything involving the base. A sunken section means digging down, checking what is underneath, re-compacting in lifts, and re-laying pavers with the correct slope for drainage. Get the slope wrong and water runs toward your foundation instead of away from it. Get the compaction wrong and you are re-doing the work next spring. We have re-done enough DIY base repairs across San Antonio that I can tell you honestly: the pavers are the easy part. The first six inches under them are the job. If you are at all unsure, call (432) 233-0976 and we will come look, measure, and give you a written price. The estimate is free and you are not obligated to anything.
FAQs

Paver driveways in San Antonio typically last 25 to 40 years for the pavers themselves, though the base and joint sand usually need attention every 5 to 10 years because of our clay soil and intense sun. The pavers are not the weak point. Call (432) 233-0976 if your joints are disappearing or sections are sinking.
Yes, in most cases we can pull up the affected section, re-compact and re-level the base, and re-lay the original pavers rather than replacing the whole driveway. The question is whether the base was done correctly in the first place. Call (432) 233-0976 and we will tell you what we see.
Re-sanding and minor paver replacement is a half-day to full-day job. A full tear-out and re-install typically runs 3 to 7 working days depending on driveway size, demolition, and any drainage work needed. We give you the timeline in writing as part of the quote.
We source all materials for you, including Quikrete-compatible pavers matched to your existing layout, and we handle delivery, staging, and haul-away. You do not have to order or transport anything. The material cost is itemized in your written price.
