Boral Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

A full Boral kitchen remodeling project in San Antonio typically runs between $14,000 and $45,000, depending on whether we’re refreshing cabinet faces and counters or gutting the room to the studs. We stock Boral-compatible trim, panels, and millwork in our local shop, and most part replacements happen within a few days of the first walkthrough. What usually brings a homeowner to this page is a specific failure: a cabinet door that no longer sits flush, a trim piece that has warped at the seam, or a counter edge that has started to delaminate from years of San Antonio humidity cycling through the house.

Here’s the thing we tell every San Antonio homeowner during a walkthrough: Boral makes a solid product, but our climate tests it. The combination of summer heat, seasonal humidity swings, and the occasional cold snap means trim and panel joints move more here than they do in drier markets. When a piece fails, it’s rarely the whole kitchen. It’s a specific part, in a specific spot, and that part can usually be matched and replaced without tearing out everything around it.

Graham Stein has walked hundreds of these kitchens across San Antonio. His rule on every job is simple: write it down, price it once, do it right. That means before any trim comes off, you have a written price for the part, the labor, and the finish work. No surprises after demo day.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral’s kitchen product line is built around a few distinct series, and matching the right part is where most San Antonio homeowners get tripped up. The TrimLine series uses a proprietary snap-and-glue installation channel that looks similar to standard millwork but doesn’t accept off-the-shelf replacements. The PanelCraft series uses 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch MDF cores with a melamine or vinyl wrap, and the edge profile matters more than the face color. If you have a Boral kitchen installed after 2018, you likely have one of these two series in your home.

To identify what you have before you call us, check the inside of a cabinet door hinge or the back edge of a drawer face. Boral stamps a small oval label with the series name and, in most cases, a six-digit lot code. That lot code matters: Boral has changed the exact vinyl wrap colorants at least three times since 2019, and matching a door from the wrong lot will leave a visible color shift under kitchen lighting. If the label is gone, measure the door thickness. TrimLine doors run 5/8-inch thick. PanelCraft doors run 3/4-inch thick. That single measurement tells us most of what we need to know.

For OEM versus aftermarket, our honest position is this: for structural pieces like cabinet boxes and load-bearing trim, we recommend OEM Boral parts when they’re still in production. For cosmetic faces, drawer fronts, and decorative panels, a quality aftermarket match is often indistinguishable and costs 20-30% less. We’ll show you both options in writing and let you choose. We are an independent San Antonio contractor, not a Boral dealer, which means we are free to recommend whichever part actually fits your kitchen and your budget better.

Signs Your Boral Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed or sit flush. This is almost always a hinge-seat failure in the MDF core, not a hinge problem. The original screw holes strip over time, especially on doors that get daily use. San Antonio’s humidity cycles speed this up because the MDF expands and contracts more than solid wood would.
  • Trim seams that have opened up or separated at corners. Boral’s vinyl-wrapped trim expands at a different rate than the drywall behind it. When you see a gap at a corner joint that wasn’t there a year ago, the adhesive bond has failed and the trim needs to be reset or replaced, not caulked over.
  • A counter edge that is peeling or shows visible layers. If a Boral countertop edge is delaminating, water has gotten into the substrate. This one needs attention sooner rather than later, because once the core gets wet, the damage spreads inward and the replacement cost goes up.
  • Drawer faces that feel soft or have visible swelling at the bottom edge. Spills and floor-mopping moisture wick up into the lower drawer faces over time. A soft bottom edge means the MDF has absorbed moisture and is breaking down. This part is not repairable; it’s a swap.
  • Discoloration or fading that doesn’t match the rest of the kitchen. If one door or panel has yellowed or faded while its neighbors haven’t, you have a lot-code mismatch from a previous repair or a UV exposure issue near a window. It’s cosmetic, but it’s the kind of thing you’ll notice every single day.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A small remodeled galley kitchen with cabinets to the ceiling

Part-level replacements in San Antonio include: a matched Boral-compatible part, removal of the failed piece, surface prep, installation, alignment, and a photo of the clean-up before we leave. Here’s what we see for common Boral kitchen repairs in this market.

Repair Type Typical Installed Cost
Single cabinet door replacement $180 – $420
Drawer face replacement (per drawer) $120 – $310
Trim or corner seam reset (per linear area) $200 – $650
Countertop edge repair $300 – $800
Full kitchen remodel (all new cabinets, counters, fixtures) $14,000 – $45,000
Small kitchen remodel (refresh faces, counters, backsplash) $9,000 – $20,000

Every line in that table is the price you sign for. Written, fixed, no change orders added after the crew arrives. If a part is backordered or the scope changes, we put the new number in writing before any additional work starts. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every Boral repair and remodel we do in San Antonio: if it isn’t right within a year, we come back and make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things a homeowner can safely do before calling us. Check the hinge screws: if they’re simply loose, a careful tighten with a hand screwdriver (not a drill) can buy you time. Take photos of any failing seam or edge with a quarter in the frame for scale. Look for the Boral lot label on the inside of an adjacent cabinet door. That information saves us a trip back to the shop for a sample match.

What we don’t recommend is pulling the trim off yourself. Boral’s snap channels crack if pried at the wrong angle, and once the backing channel is damaged, the replacement becomes more involved and more expensive. Same story with counter edges: peeling the loose laminate back to “see how bad it is” usually doubles the repair area. If you’re in San Antonio and you’ve spotted a failing part, call (432) 233-0976. We’ll schedule a walkthrough, match the part, and hand you a written price that same day. Estimates are free.
