Barrette Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

A complete Barrette fence installation in San Antonio typically runs between $3,500 and $9,000, depending on linear footage, gate hardware, and whether we’re pulling the old posts or setting new ones. Most owners don’t call us for a whole fence though. They call because one section leaned after a storm, a gate stopped latching, or a post snapped at ground level and the neighbor’s dog now has a shortcut into the yard. The good news: if the rails and pickets are still sound, we can often match the failed component and rebuild just that section, then rehang the panel so it sits square again.

Here’s what we see most often in San Antonio: the bottom rail rots or warps from ground contact and sprinkler overspray, the post concrete heaves with our clay soil’s wet-dry cycles, or the gate sags because the hinge screws stripped out of a vinyl post. Barrette makes solid vinyl and aluminum fence systems, but no fence part survives forever in Texas sun. What matters is whether the rest of the panel is worth saving. Usually, it is. We’ll tell you honestly either way, and we’ll write down exactly what we’re doing before any tool leaves the truck.

Which Barrette Models This Applies To

Barrette Outdoor Living produces several fence product lines that show up in San Antonio yards, and the compatibility question is the first thing we check. Their vinyl privacy fence panels are the most common here, often sold under names like Freedom, Hudson, or Lexington depending on the retailer and year. The rails and pickets interlock differently between series, and an older panel from a decade ago may not accept a current-model replacement rail without shimming or trimming. That’s been the case on more than a few King William and Alamo Heights properties where the original fence outlasted the product line it came from.

The practical move is to pull a picket or shine a light at a rail end before ordering anything. Barrette stamps or labels most extrusions with a size code, often something like 1.5 x 5.5 for the rails or a groove profile that tells us the series. If the fence is too weathered to read, we measure the wall thickness and the channel width with calipers on site, then match to what Barrette currently produces or to a quality aftermarket equivalent that fits the same channel. For most San Antonio installations, an OEM Barrette part is the right call when it’s still in production. For discontinued profiles, a well-made aftermarket rail or post from a Texas distributor will often outlast the original, because the UV inhibitors in newer vinyl are better than what was poured twenty years ago.

One thing to know: we are an independent San Antonio contractor, not a Barrette dealer or warranty agent. We stock common Barrette-compatible profiles on the truck and can order the rest locally, usually with a two-to-five day lead time for odd sizes.

Signs Your Barrette Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Gate drags or won’t latch. The hinge post has shifted or the hinge screws have wallowed out the vinyl. In San Antonio’s clay, posts move seasonally, and a gate that worked in March can bind by July. The fix is usually resetting the post in deeper concrete or installing a reinforcing insert inside the post before re-hanging the gate.
  • Pickets pulling out of the bottom rail. The rail’s bottom channel has cracked or the picket tabs have snapped from wind flex. You’ll see it first on the windward side of the yard. If the rail is intact, we can often reseat pickets and add a mechanical fastener where Barrette’s factory friction fit has given up.
  • Post leaning at the base. Water pooled at the post bottom, and the concrete footing is undersized for our soil movement. The fix is removing the old footing, setting a new post in concrete below the frost line (shallow here, but heat expansion still matters), and bracing the section while it cures.
  • White residue or chalky surface on rails. UV degradation. It’s cosmetic until it isn’t. A chalky rail is losing its outer protective layer, and a hard impact that would have bounced off a new rail can crack a weathered one. Replacement is when it looks bad enough to bother you, not an emergency.
  • Section wobbles when pushed. The rail brackets have broken or the rails were cut slightly short at install, so the panel was never fully seated. This one is common on DIY installs and fences put in by production crews moving fast. We shim, bracket, and re-secure the section so it doesn’t rattle in the wind.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a full Barrette fence installation in San Antonio, plan on $3,500 to $9,000. The spread depends on footage, whether we’re replacing posts or just rails and pickets, gate count, and how much digging is involved. A full perimeter fence in a neighborhood like Terrell Hills or Stone Oak with two gates and some tree roots in the post line will land on the higher end. A 50-foot side yard refresh with existing posts still solid is on the lower end.

Every price we give is written before the work starts. That’s the Cedarwell Care Promise, and my name is on it. The line items include removal of the failed parts, new Barrette or matched aftermarket components, concrete and hardware, gate re-hanging and adjustment, and cleanup. Shoe covers inside the house, drop cloths over the path to the yard, and a photo of the finished cleanup before the crew leaves are part of the job, not add-ons. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before you call. Look at whether the rail has pulled away from the post bracket, whether the gate hinge screws are loose, and whether water is pooling around the post base. Those observations help us quote faster over the phone. What I wouldn’t do is start pulling the fence apart around a leaning post without knowing what’s holding it. A post set poorly can fall on a child or pet, and South Texas wind will find a half-finished fence and fold it across the neighbor’s car. Vinyl fencing isn’t dangerous the way a garage spring is, but a falling section is heavy, and the post concrete work in our clay soil is where most amateur fixes fail inside a year.

If you want to know whether the section can be salvaged or the whole run needs replacing, call us at (432) 233-0976. We’ll come look, write down the scope, hand you a fixed price, and start when it works for your family.

How Long Does a Barrette Vinyl Fence Last in San Antonio?

Realistically, 15 to 25 years for the vinyl panels themselves, with posts and gate hardware often failing first, between years 8 and 15. Our heat accelerates UV breakdown on south-facing and west-facing runs, and the clay soil’s seasonal shrink-swell cycle works posts loose even when the concrete pour was done right. In San Antonio, a fence that was installed 20 years ago with little shade is usually at the end of its service life.

Can You Repair My Barrette Fence Instead of Replacing It?

Yes, and we often do. If the rails and at least 70 percent of the pickets are sound, we can replace the failed posts, splice or replace a bottom rail, and rehang the gate. The honest math: if the panel is heavily chalked and brittle, repair money is wasted because adjacent sections will fail within a year or two. We’ll show you the condition in person and let the fence tell the story before we recommend anything.

How Long Does a Fence Section or Gate Replacement Take?

Most single-section repairs and gate resets in San Antonio are done in one day. A full fence replacement is typically three to five working days, including post concrete cure time before we hang the panels. We work around nap hours and school runs where we can, and we keep the crew quiet during family rest hours per our Cedarwell Care Promise.

Do You Stock Barrette Parts on the Truck?

We keep common Barrette-compatible rail, post, and gate hardware profiles in stock for San Antonio service calls, along with matched aftermarket options for discontinued series. If your fence needs a part we don’t carry, we can usually have it from a local Texas distributor within a few days. Give us the fence’s age, height, and a photo of the failed section if you have one, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a truck-stock fix.
