Cover Roofing: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a Cover roof and a panel, fastener, or flashing has failed, we stock Cover-compatible roofing materials and can typically complete the swap in one visit. Installed replacement for a Cover roof system in San Antonio runs $400 to $1,800 for repairs and $8,000 to $20,000 for a full replacement, depending on square footage and the extent of damage. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a dark stain on the ceiling after a hard July storm, granules collecting in the gutters, or a sunlit gap where the roof meets a vent pipe.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor. We are not affiliated with Cover, but we’ve worked with their panel profiles long enough to know which parts fit which series, what fails first in Texas heat, and what a repair should cost before the work begins. Graham Stein, our owner, writes every scope down before a single tool leaves the truck, so the price you sign is the price you pay.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover manufactures metal roofing panels in several profiles, and the part number matters more than the series name. The most common panels we see in San Antonio are standing seam, batten seam, and corrugated profiles, each with different clip widths, rib heights, and fastener patterns. If you know your panel’s profile type, we can usually match it by measuring the rib height and the panel width in place. A standing seam panel from one Cover line will not accept the same clip as a corrugated profile, even if both came from the same manufacturer, so the measurement matters more than the branding on the box.
For most San Antonio homes, we recommend OEM Cover panels when the roof is under warranty or when the color match has to be exact. Cover’s current finish lines hold color differently than older batches, and sun exposure across five to ten South Texas summers shifts a panel’s appearance enough that a close-aftermarket match can still catch the eye from the street. For non-visible components like closures, butyl tape, and underlayment, quality aftermarket equivalents from GAF and other named manufacturers perform as well and cost less. We’ll tell you which option makes sense for your specific part before you commit to anything.

Signs Your Cover Roofing Is Failing
- Oil canning that appears or worsens on south-facing slopes. Cover panels expand and contract through San Antonio’s 40-degree temperature swings. When the original installer over-tightened fasteners or skipped the proper clip spacing, the panel face starts to ripple. It’s usually cosmetic, but a sudden change often means a clip has let go underneath.
- Rust trails below a fastener line. The factory finish on Cover panels is durable, but the cut edges and fastener holes are where corrosion starts. If you see a rust streak running down from a screw head, the washer beneath it has likely dried out and is no longer sealing.
- Granules or paint chips collecting in gutters. For Cover’s coated steel lines, finish breakdown shows up as small flakes in the gutter months before the panel itself shows rust. In San Antonio’s UV, the south and west exposures fail first.
- Daylight visible through the ridge or where the panel meets a pipe boot. This is a flashing failure, not a panel failure, but the symptoms look the same from inside: water staining on the ceiling after heavy rain. Pipe boots dry out and split faster here than in cooler climates.
- Loose panels you can hear moving in the wind. A properly clipped Cover panel should be silent even in a March front. Movement means clips have backed off or the underlayment has compressed. In high-wind storms, a loose panel can lift and take its neighbors with it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Cover roof repair in San Antonio runs $400 to $1,800 for the typical failure: a split pipe boot, a loosened clip run, a rusted fastener row, or a short panel section near the eave. A full Cover roof replacement on an average San Antonio home runs $8,000 to $20,000, which includes tear-off, underlayment, new panels, edge trim, and the finish work at penetrations. The range depends mostly on roof height, slope, and how many penetrations the roof carries.
Every quote we write includes the parts, the labor, the drop cloths, and the cleanup as one written price before work starts. No change orders appear after demo. Our part of the work carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if something we installed fails within the year, we make it right at no charge. The Cover manufacturer warranty is separate and travels with the material itself.
DIY or Call Us?
A roof is the wrong place to learn the difference between a clip that’s backing out and one that’s still holding tension. If you want to check something yourself, look from the ground: note where the stain is inside, where the rust is showing, what the panel profile looks like from the eave. That information helps us bring the right part on the first trip. What we’d rather you not do is get on a ladder with a drill and a pocketful of screws. The fall risk is real, and a misdrilled fastener on a metal panel is a new leak you’ve just created.
Call us at (432) 233-0976 and tell us what you’re seeing. We’ll ask for a couple of measurements, answer the phone like a person, and give you a written price before anyone climbs a ladder.
FAQs

A properly installed Cover metal roof in San Antonio typically lasts 40 to 50 years on the panel itself, though expect to replace pipe boots and fastener washers every 10 to 15 years. The Texas sun shortens the finish life on south and west slopes more than anything else, and that’s true of every metal roof product regardless of brand. Call (432) 233-0976 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your roof is at the repair stage or the replacement stage.
Yes, most Cover roofing failures are repairable when caught early: a split pipe boot, a backed-out clip run, or a rusted fastener row can be fixed in a few hours for $400 to $1,800 in San Antonio. A panel with significant rust or fatigue is better replaced than patched, because a patch on a metal roof is a future leak waiting for the next downpour. We’ll tell you which situation you have after looking at photos or walking the roof.
Most Cover part swaps take one visit, typically two to four hours once we’re on the roof. Repairs that need color-matched panels may take a few extra days for the material to arrive, and we don’t start until the right part is in hand. Call (432) 233-0976 for a written time estimate specific to your repair.
We keep the common failure items on board: pipe boots in standard sizes, fastener and washer kits, seam closures, and a selection of trim pieces. Full panel sections and unusual profiles are ordered per job so the color and profile match exactly. If it’s a part we don’t carry, we tell you before we schedule the visit, not after.
