Techo-Bloc Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Techo-Bloc fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 installed, depending on linear footage, post depth, and whether we’re matching an existing Techo-Bloc wall or starting fresh. We stock the common Techo-Bloc fence components on our trucks and can usually source the rest within a few days. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a post has shifted after our clay-heavy soil expanded, a cap has cracked, or a section looks like it’s leaning after a hard rain. The good news is that most Techo-Bloc fence failures are repairable section by section, not whole-fence replacements.
Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

Techo-Bloc makes several fence and column systems, and they are not interchangeable. The two we see most often in San Antonio are the Borealis modular fence system and the Champlain pillar-and-panel line. Borealis uses a larger block, roughly 16 inches wide, with a hollow core that gets reinforced with rebar and concrete. Champlain blocks are smaller and designed for tighter radii and more detailed column work.
If you’re not sure which one you have, look at the top cap. Borealis caps have a rounded profile and sit proud of the block face. Champlain caps are flatter and typically flush. You can also measure the block height: Borealis runs about 8 inches per course, Champlain closer to 6. Getting that right matters because mixing systems creates a visible seam and joint stress points that fail early. We’ve had clients hand us a photo of one block and ask us to match it. A photo helps, but a measurement of the block face and cap profile gets us there faster.
OEM Techo-Bloc parts are our default on fences under warranty or when the color match has to be exact. Techo-Bloc’s color blends, like Shale Grey or Chestnut Brown, do vary slightly by production run. A two-year-old fence in full San Antonio sun will not match a brand-new OEM block exactly. For older fences where an exact match is less critical, we also work with quality aftermarket caps and bases that meet the same dimensional spec. We’ll walk you through that choice honestly on the estimate.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Fence Installation Is Failing
- Leaning posts or columns. In San Antonio, expansive clay soil pushes posts out of plumb during wet-dry cycles. A post tilted more than an inch over four feet means the concrete footing is compromised or the rebar wasn’t set deep enough originally.
- Cracked caps or chipped block edges. These are usually impact damage or freeze-thaw stress. Techo-Bloc caps are the first piece to show wear because they take the most sun and the most knocks from mowers and trash bins.
- Visible gaps between courses. When the fence settles unevenly, horizontal joints open up. If you can slide a quarter into a gap between blocks, water is getting in and the joint is no longer doing its job.
- Washed-out base material. After heavy San Antonio storms, you may see sand or gravel eroding from under the bottom course. That points to a drainage or base-prep problem from day one.
- Rust staining at weep holes or on the coping. This usually means water is sitting inside the hollow core and the internal rebar is corroding. Left alone, rust expansion itself cracks the block from the inside.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a typical San Antonio yard, a Techo-Bloc fence installation runs $3,500 – $9,000. The low end covers a shorter run, maybe 30 linear feet with one gate, no demo of an old wood fence. The high end covers 80 to 100 linear feet, a gate or two, removal of an existing fence, and deeper footings where the soil report calls for it.
Every quote from Elmstead Remodeling San Antonio is written, line-itemed, and handed to you before any work starts. The price includes the Techo-Bloc blocks, caps, bonding adhesive, rebar, concrete footings, gravel base, and installation labor. It also includes the clean-up: drop cloths on the floors if we need to walk through the house, shoe covers at the door, and a photo of the finished clean-up before the crew leaves. We do not add change orders after the crew shows up. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every Techo-Bloc fence we install. If something is not done right, we come back and make it right.
What pushes a Techo-Bloc fence quote higher is usually the footing. San Antonio’s clay soil expands and contracts enough that we often over-excavate and use a deeper, wider footing than code minimums. That is extra concrete and extra labor, but it is the difference between a fence that stands straight for 20 years and one that leans after the first wet winter.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things an owner can safely check before calling: look for washout after storms, note any caps that are cracked, and take a photo of the block face from six inches away so we can see the color blend and profile. That saves a trip.
What we do not recommend is resetting a leaning post yourself. A full Techo-Bloc post with concrete fill can weigh 400 pounds or more. Once it is not plumb, lifting it back into place without the right bracing and lifting equipment can cause a crush injury, and the footing that let it lean in the first place needs archaeological-grade inspection before anything gets set back. That is a job for a crew that has done it enough times to know what the base looked like before it failed. FAQs

With proper footings and good drainage, a Techo-Bloc fence in San Antonio lasts 25 to 40 years. The block itself is concrete, built for freeze-thaw and UV exposure. What shortens the lifespan here is soil movement and bad water management. Fix those at installation and the fence outlasts most houses. Call (432) 233-0976 if you want someone to look at your specific site conditions.
Usually yes, a leaning section can be repaired by resetting the post footings and re-stacking the block. The exceptions are when internal rebar is rusted through or the block faces are so chipped they no longer hold a clean line. We will tell you which one you have before recommending any work.
A typical residential Techo-Bloc fence installation in San Antonio takes 3 to 7 days, including demolition of the old fence, excavation, footings, block stacking, curing, and clean-up. Weather and soil conditions can stretch that by a day or two. We build that timeline into the written quote so there are no surprises.
We stock common Borealis and Champlain caps, bases, and corner units on our trucks to handle most repair calls in one visit. Specialty colors or pillar caps ship from Techo-Bloc’s Texas distribution and usually arrive in under a week. We’ll confirm parts availability on the estimate, in writing.
No. The price you sign is the price you pay. What we find in the ground is our problem to solve, not a surprise line item for you. If a footing needs to go deeper than planned, that is covered in how we scope the job from the start.
