Ameristar Roofing: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Ameristar-compatible roofing parts for homes across San Antonio, with most replacements completed same-week and typical installed costs running $400 to $1,800 for roof repair and $8,000 to $20,000 for a full roof replacement, depending on the damage. Most owners discover a problem the morning after a Hill Country thunderstorm, when a damp spot shows up on the ceiling or a shingle shows up in the yard. Sometimes it is quieter than that, a slow leak near a vent pipe that has been working for months before anyone notices the staining on the drywall.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ameristar. What we do is keep their roofing systems working the way they were designed to, and we have been doing that long enough to know which parts fail first in San Antonio’s heat and hail.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar roofing products fall into a few broad families: asphalt shingle lines, metal panel systems, and the rolled roofing used on low-slope additions and porches. The compatibility question that matters is not the model name, it is the substrate. Ameristar shingles are manufactured for standard 3-tab and architectural profiles, which means they install across standard 30-pound felt or synthetic underlayment on a solid deck. If your home near Alamo Heights has an architectural profile and a neighbor in Helotes has a 3-tab, the repair parts differ, even though both roofs carry the Ameristar name.
We identify the correct part two ways: first, by the physical profile, the thickness and exposure width of the shingle tab; second, by the age of the roof. Ameristar has changed adhesive strip formulations over time, and a shingle produced for a 2016 line does not always match a shingle produced in 2021. We carry samples in the truck for side-by-side matching, and for metal systems we verify panel rib spacing and seam profile before ordering. Aftermarket equivalents exist and can be appropriate, but for wind-driven rain exposure on San Antonio’s north side, we generally recommend OEM Ameristar material. The manufacturer stands behind it, and the color and granule match is closer than any aftermarket product can promise.

Signs Your Ameristar Roofing Is Failing
- Granules collecting in the gutters. Texas heat breaks down the asphalt binder that holds granules in place, and when those granules start washing toward the downspouts after a hard rain, the shingle is losing its UV protection. This shows up earlier on south-facing slopes near Stone Oak, where the sun hits hardest.
- Curling at the shingle edges. Moisture gets trapped under the shingle, the mat expands, and the edges lift. Once a shingle has curled enough to see from the ground, the seal strip has usually failed, and the next strong wind takes the shingle with it.
- A soft or spongy feel underfoot. If the deck below the Ameristar shingle has been wet for a while, the plywood or OSB starts to delaminate. This is a structural problem, not just a surface problem, and it means the repair goes deeper than shingles.
- Water staining on ceilings or at wall junctions. The leak that shows up inside the house often started at a flashing point, a vent pipe boot, a chimney, or a valley. The shingle itself may still look fine. The flashing is usually the older part by then.
- Shingles missing after a storm. San Antonio sits in hail alley, and March through May brings storms that can tear an exposed shingle from the deck. When one goes missing, the roof deck underneath is exposed, and the next rain gets inside the house. That is the call we get most often from the Alamo Ranch area.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

The installed price for an Ameristar roof repair in San Antonio runs $400 to $1,800, depending on how many shingles are affected, whether flashing needs to be replaced, and whether the deck below is intact. A full roof replacement runs $8,000 to $20,000, and the spread comes down to square footage, pitch, the number of existing layers being removed, and whether we are replacing the entire deck or just sections of it.
Every quote from us is a written price, line by line, before any work starts. You will see the Ameristar material cost, the labor, the disposal fee, and the underlayment. Nothing gets added after the crew arrives. We also give you a photo of the clean-up before we leave, with the nail sweep done and the drop cloths pulled back from the flower beds. If something is not done right within 365 days of the job being complete, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things from the ground: missing shingles, visible flashing gaps, granules in the downspout. A quick look after every significant storm is a reasonable habit. What you should not do is get on the roof. A steep pitch, a wet deck, or a loose shingle underfoot is enough to put someone in the hospital, and roof injuries are not the kind you walk away from. Leave ladder work and deck repairs to people who do it every day.
If you see something that worries you, call us at (432) 233-0976. We will send someone out, look at the roof properly, and write down exactly what needs to happen and what it costs. If it turns out to be nothing, we will tell you that too.
I am Graham Stein, and I grew up in Los Angeles, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, and have spent years working on homes across San Antonio, including enough time near the King William Historic District to know that an older roof needs patience, not short cuts. My rule for this company is the same one I have always written down before a job starts: Write it down, price it once, do it right.
FAQs

An Ameristar asphalt shingle roof in San Antonio typically lasts 12 to 18 years, which is shorter than the national average because of our UV exposure, hail cycles, and the rapid temperature swings between March and September. Metal Ameristar panels can last 30 years or more if the seams and flashings are maintained. Call (432) 233-0976 for an honest assessment of where your roof stands.
Yes, most single-area damage, missing shingles, flashing failures, and minor hail damage can be repaired for $400 to $1,800. Replacement becomes the better call when the damage is widespread, the deck is soft, or the shingles have lost so much granule coverage that repair would leave a patchwork roof. We will show you what we see and let you decide.
Most repairs are completed in half a day to one full day, weather permitting. A full replacement on a standard San Antonio home usually takes 2 to 4 days, including tear-off, deck inspection, underlayment, shingles, and clean-up. We give you the timeline in writing before the crew shows up.
We stock common Ameristar shingle profiles, flashing, pipe boots, and sealants on our trucks, and we can order the less common metal panel sizes and colors within a few days. We also stock parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if your roof repair turns into a deeper renovation, the same crew can handle it. Call (432) 233-0976 and we will tell you what we have on hand.
