ES Windows Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

If you have an ES Windows window or door that’s failing, we can source the correct replacement part and install it. Most ES Windows parts in San Antonio run between $150 and $900 installed depending on the component, and we keep common hardware on our trucks for same-week turnaround.

The way owners usually find us is simple: a window that won’t lock at night, a door that drags against the frame after a storm, or a crank handle that spins without moving the sash. ES Windows builds a solid product, but San Antonio’s heat and humidity work on seals, rollers, and hardware year after year. The part fails quietly, then one morning the window won’t close and you’re standing there with a towel stuffed in the gap.

We work on ES Windows products across San Antonio, from Alamo Heights to Stone Oak to older homes near King William where window openings were never perfectly square to begin with. Graham Stein will tell you the same thing he writes on every scope: “Write it down, price it once, do it right.” That’s how we handle a single window repair the same way we handle a whole-home remodel.

Which ES Windows Models This Applies To

ES Windows manufactures several series, and the right part depends on the series and the year it was installed. The most common lines we see in San Antonio homes are the ES 3000 and ES 5000 series single-hung and horizontal sliders, plus ES casement and awning windows in newer construction. Doors include ES sliding patio doors and ES hinged French doors, each with hardware that is not interchangeable between series.

Here is the compatibility gotcha we run into weekly: ES Windows changed balance shoe designs between older and newer production runs. A window from 2012 and a window from 2020 may look identical from the inside, but the pivot bar and shoe inside the jamb are different sizes. If you order the wrong one, the sash will not stay up. Before we order anything, we check the label etched on the edge of the glass or the sticker inside the top track, then we measure the shoe width with calipers.

OEM ES Windows parts carry the manufacturer’s warranty and guaranteed fit, but they cost 30 to 50 percent more than quality aftermarket equivalents and can take two to three weeks to arrive. For most balance systems, latches, and rollers, we recommend a reputable aftermarket brand that matches the OEM spec exactly. For anything structural like a full sash or frame corner, we go OEM every time. We’ll show you both prices in writing before you decide.

Elmstead Remodeling San Antonio is an independent contractor, not affiliated with ES Windows. We stock parts that fit their products because so many San Antonio homes already have them installed.

Signs Your ES Windows Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Window will not stay up – The balance shoe or spring inside the jamb has worn out. This is the single most common ES Windows failure we replace in San Antonio, and it happens faster on south-facing windows where heat cycles the spring metal year after year.
  • Sliding door drags or jumps the track – The rollers under an ES sliding door have flat spots or the bearings are grinding. You will hear it first, a rumbling that gets worse as the door moves. Left alone, the door will eventually gouge the track and the repair doubles in cost.
  • Lock or latch will not engage – The keeper on the frame and the latch on the sash have drifted out of alignment, or the internal latch spring has broken. Sometimes the floor settling under a San Antonio slab foundation shifts the frame just enough that the two halves no longer line up.
  • Crank handle spins freely – On ES casement windows, the gear inside the operator has stripped. This is a parts-only fix, but the operator must match the window’s exact gear ratio or the window will open too slowly or bind.
  • Condensation between the glass panes – The dual-pane seal has failed. The glass is still structurally sound, but the insulating argon gas has leaked out and that window is no longer doing its job in a Texas summer. This requires an insulated glass unit replacement, not just a hardware fix.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For ES Windows parts in San Antonio, here is what you should expect, installed:

  • Balance shoe and spring replacement: $150 – $350 per window
  • Sliding door roller replacement: $180 – $450 per door
  • Lock or latch replacement: $120 – $280 per unit
  • Casement operator replacement: $200 – $420 per window
  • Insulated glass unit replacement: $350 – $900 per sash

Every quote includes the part, labor, and cleanup. We give you a written price before any work starts, and that number does not change once the crew arrives. If you have an ES Windows window that is beyond repair and needs full replacement, window replacement across San Antonio typically runs $4,500 – $15,000 depending on the number of openings, though a single window replacement falls on the lower end and we will give you an exact line-item quote.

The workmanship is covered under our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a part we installed fails within a year, we fix it. No charge, no debate.

DIY or Call Us?

For a sticky lock or a loose handle screw, you can safely tighten things down and see if that resolves it. A Phillips screwdriver and five minutes will sometimes fix a latch that has simply worked loose.

Beyond that, we recommend a call. Window balances are under tension, and releasing a spring-loaded shoe without the right technique can send parts flying. A sliding door is heavy enough to crush fingers when it comes off its track. And an insulated glass unit, once removed, is awkward and easy to crack before it is even seated in the opening. The honest math is this: the part costs the same whether we install it or we fix your mistake afterward. The difference is that we carry the liability and the one-year warranty.

If you want us to take a look, call (432) 233-0976 and we will come out, identify the exact ES Windows part, and give you a written quote for the repair.
