PGT Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
PGT fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 installed, and most projects are completed in two to four working days depending on how much of the old fence is still standing and what the posts are set in. We stock PGT fence panels and matching hardware on our trucks, and our standard practice is to give you a written price before any tools come off the truck. Most San Antonio owners call us because a gate has started dragging, a panel has warped away from the post, or a windstorm from the Hill Country side has loosened the whole run. The PGT product is built for coastal wind loads, which means the panels are heavier than generic box-store fence stock. That weight is exactly why a failed section rarely gets better on its own, and why the fix usually means more than just driving a new screw into the same stripped hole.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT fence products include the PGT EstateGate and aluminum fence panel lines that carry the same two-part product label you would recognize from PGT windows: a series name and a Miami-Dade or Texas Department of Insurance windstorm listing. Before we order or pull a part, we look for the small silver product tag on the bottom rail of the fence panel or on the gate frame. If the tag is missing, we match by measuring the vertical picket spacing and the top rail profile, because PGT’s San Antonio-adjacent coastal-rated panels use a thicker wall on the aluminum extrusion than the big-box equivalents. There is an OEM-versus-aftermarket decision here that matters: the aftermarket panels from local San Antonio supply houses will usually fit in the post channels, but they will not carry the same windstorm listing as the original PGT panel. For an HOA property or a fence that borders a drainage easement, that listing can matter at inspection time. We also stock KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone parts in separate divisions, so our parts desk is set up to match branded original equipment whenever the label is still legible.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
- The gate drags or catches on the latch side. This almost always means the gate hinge has pulled out of the post, or the post itself has moved in the San Antonio clay. The wet-dry cycle of our soil expands and contracts more than the PGT post hardware was designed to forgive, so a gate that catches now will only get worse through one good August rain.
- A panel has pulled away from the post channel. PGT panels are captured in an extruded channel, not surface-screwed. If the panel edge is visible outside the channel, the aluminum has been forced out, usually by wind or by a vehicle bump, and reseating it without inspecting the channel lip usually fails within weeks.
- You see a white corrosion line at any joint. San Antonio’s sprinkler water and our occasional hard freezes create a galvanic reaction where the aluminum meets a steel fastener. PGT uses coated fasteners from the factory; when the coating wears, the corrosion you see at the joint is a sign the fastener is close to falling apart.
- The fence leans at the corners but not in the middle of the run. Corner posts carry twice the panel tension. If the corner post is set in a low spot that holds water, the post base has likely rotted or the concrete footing has cracked, and the lean will transfer down the entire line.
- A picket spins when you rest your hand on it. On PGT panels, pickets are crimped into the rails at the factory. A spinning picket means the crimp has let go, and once one picket is free, the neighboring pickets are carrying that wind load, which accelerates the next failure.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A PGT fence installation in San Antonio typically lands between $3,500 and $9,000, and the spread depends on a few things we can see on a walkthrough: how many posts get reused versus replaced, whether the gate hardware is PGT original or previously patched, and whether the post footings need to be redone in the clay. The written price we give you includes the panels, the matching PGT-compatible posts and caps, the fasteners, removal and disposal of the old section, and the labor from the first stake to the final walk. We do not give estimates that grow after the crew arrives. Graham Stein’s practice has been the same since he learned the trade in Los Angeles and brought it south: write the full scope down, price the full scope once, and let the homeowner sign that same number. If something is uncovered during the job that changes the work, we stop and bring the new price in writing before we touch it. Every PGT fence installation we complete in San Antonio is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it is not done right after we leave, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
What a homeowner can safely check on a PGT fence: whether the gate latch still aligns with the receiver, whether screws are visibly backed out at the hinges, and whether sprinkler heads are spraying directly at an aluminum joint. Those are maintenance items. What goes wrong with DIY on this specific product: the panel weight. PGT panels are heavy enough that a two-person job quickly becomes a three-person job, and San Antonio’s soil makes digging out a post base without damaging the neighbor’s side or a sprinkler line a real risk. If the post footing has failed, the correct repair is to pull the post, re-drill the footing, and set the post plumb before the panel goes back in, and that is not an afternoon with a shovel and a bag of Quikrete. If the panel is still in the channel but loose, call us at (432) 233-0976 and we will come out, look at the tag or measure the profile, and give you a written price for the exact repair before any work begins.
FAQs

On a properly set post with the original coating intact, an aluminum PGT panel can last 20 to 25 years in San Antonio, with the fasteners usually failing before the aluminum does if sprinkler water has been hitting the joints. If you are seeing corrosion at the fasteners in year ten, that is early, and it is usually a sprinkler-head issue rather than a panel defect. Call (432) 233-0976 and we will tell you over the phone whether the sprinkler adjustments alone will buy you a few more years.
If the failure is a stripped hinge fastener or a single spinning picket, yes, we can often re-crimp or re-anchor in place. If the panel has pulled out of the channel or the top rail is bowed, a patch usually looks like a patch, and on a coastal-rated panel the patch will not perform to the original wind listing. We will show you both options and the written price for each, and you decide. The estimate is free.
A single panel or gate repair is usually one working day from the time we pull the part. A full fence line that requires new post footings in San Antonio clay is more often two to four working days, including the time for the concrete to set before we re-hang the panels. We will tell you which one you are facing before we start, in writing.
We keep common PGT panel sizes, post channels, hinges, and latch hardware on the truck, and we can match most current-series tags the same day. If your fence is an older line with a tag we cannot read, Graham Stein will match the extrusion profile against the local supply and tell you honestly whether the OEM part is worth the special order or whether an aftermarket equivalent will serve the rest of the fence’s life. Either way, the written price stays the written price.
If your PGT fence has a dragging gate, a loose panel, or a post that is leaning toward the neighbor’s yard, call (432) 233-0976 for a free estimate. A live person answers the phone 24/7, and we will set a time to walk the fence line with you, write down what needs to happen, price it once, and leave your yard cleaner than we found it with the photo to prove it.
