PGT Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If you have a PGT window or door in San Antonio with a failed balance, roller, lock, seal, or sash component, we stock PGT-compatible replacement parts and install them for $150 – $850 depending on the part and door or window type. Most single-part replacements are done the same visit, and we carry the common failure items on our trucks so you’re not waiting on a shipment from Florida. The way owners usually discover the problem is small at first: a window that drops an inch when you let go, a patio door that needs a shoulder to close, a latch that no longer catches cleanly.
What makes PGT worth fixing rather than replacing is the same thing that made it worth buying: the aluminum frame tolerances and impact-rated glass were built for hurricane country, and they hold up in South Texas heat better than most. The parts that wear out are, almost always, the moving ones. Those are replaceable without touching the glass or the frame.
The written price you sign is the price you pay. We started doing it that way years ago, and nobody on our crew has ever handed a homeowner a surprise add-on after the work started. Write it down, price it once, do it right.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s residential lines show up all over San Antonio, especially in newer builds around Alamo Ranch, Stone Oak, and Cibolo. The parts we handle most often come from the WinGuard impact series, the Spectrum vinyl line, and the EZ-Breeze sliding window system. We also work on PGT patio doors from the 5500 and 7700 sliding series.
Here’s the compatibility catch most owners hit: PGT stamps its model and manufacturing codes on a small label, usually on the top edge of the sash or the inside of the frame track, but the label fades or peels after a few Texas summers. When the label is gone, the part still gets matched by taking two measurements: the visible glass dimensions and the frame depth. That’s how we identify the series, and it’s also how we catch a mismatch before we order anything.
On OEM versus aftermarket: PGT’s original parts are excellent, but the lead time from their Florida distribution can run three to six weeks in our experience. For balances, rollers, and handles, we use quality aftermarket equivalents that match the original specs and install the same day. For anything impact-rated, we won’t substitute. WinGuard hardware and laminated glass components stay PGT-spec because the rating depends on it.

Signs Your PGT Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window drops when you let go. This is a failed spiral or block-and-tackle balance. The spring inside loses tension over time, and gravity wins. It will only get worse, and a dropped sash can crack the frame corner.
- The patio door grinds or sticks halfway across the track. PGT sliding doors ride on steel or nylon rollers that collect dust, pet hair, and the fine grit San Antonio winds carry. When a roller seizes, the door drags and eventually carves a groove into the track.
- The lock won’t throw or the handle spins loose. PGT multi-point locks depend on gear alignment between the sash and the frame. A tiny settling shift or a bent keeper means the lock never fully engages, and a lock that looks shut but isn’t is a security problem.
- You feel a draft or see condensation between the panes. Drafts point to worn weatherstripping or a seal that pulled away. Condensation inside the glass means the insulated unit seal has failed, and that’s a glass replacement, not a part replacement.
- The window is hard to lift or tilts unevenly when you try to clean it. A sash that fights you opening it usually has a broken or bent pivot bar, and forcing it is how window corners crack. If it tilts unevenly, the shoe or pivot is gone on one side.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Window replacement in San Antonio typically runs $4,500 – $15,000 for a full-home job, but a single PGT part repair is a fraction of that. Here’s what we quote in this market:
- Balance or pivot replacement: $150 – $300 per window, parts and labor
- Roller replacement on a sliding door: $180 – $350, including track cleaning and adjustment
- Handle or lock replacement: $120 – $280, depending on single-point versus multi-point
- Weatherstripping or seal replacement: $100 – $250 per opening
- Full hardware refresh on a PGT patio door: $400 – $850 when multiple parts failed together
The swing in each range is driven by the part, accessibility, and how long the old hardware fights during removal. Every quote is written, line by line, before the work starts. The parts carry their manufacturer warranty, and our workmanship is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
There are things an owner can check before calling anyone. Slide the door track clean with a dry brush and see if the roller still turns. Look at the label on the sash. Take a photo of the handle and the corner of the window so whoever you call knows what they’re looking at.
Then there are the things you shouldn’t touch. Balances and spiral springs on PGT windows hold real tension, and a spring that lets go mid-removal has enough force to break a hand or a window. Impact-rated sashes are heavy, and removing one wrong means a cracked frame or a trip to the ER. We’ve seen a homeowner’s Saturday “quick balance swap” turn into a broken window and a $600 second visit. This is the kind of job where the right call is calling a crew that does it every week.

FAQs

In our San Antonio experience, PGT balances and rollers last 8 to 15 years depending on exposure, door weight, and how clean the tracks stay. The South Texas heat and wind-driven dust shorten the life of rollers and weatherstripping compared to coastal Florida, where the same parts often reach the upper end of that range. If your windows are over a decade old and one part has failed, it’s worth checking the others while we’re there. Call (432) 233-0976 and we’ll take a look at the whole opening, not just the broken part.
Rollers can sometimes be cleaned and re-lubricated, and a loose handle can often be tightened. Balances and pivot bars generally cannot be repaired; once the internal spring fails or the metal bends, the part is done. We’ll always tell you if a repair is realistic before we recommend replacement, and the price is in writing either way. A quick call to (432) 233-0976 gets you an honest answer.
A single balance, roller, handle, or seal replacement takes 30 minutes to two hours once we’re at the house. Most PGT part swaps are finished in one visit. Multi-point lock replacements on patio doors can run longer because the frame may need minor adjustment to get the gears aligned again.
Common PGT balances, rollers, handles, and weatherstripping for WinGuard, Spectrum, and EZ-Breeze are on our trucks. Rare or impact-rated hardware is ordered to match the exact model, which takes longer. We’ll tell you which category your part falls into before you commit to anything. Call (432) 233-0976 to schedule a look.
