Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Atlas driveway and paver replacement parts are available through Elmstead Remodeling San Antonio, and most common failures can be matched on site and installed in a single visit. Depending on what failed and how much of the surface has shifted or cracked, a replacement part or section repair in San Antonio typically runs between $700 and $3,500 installed. The way most homeowners find out is the same: a paver sinks after a heavy rain, a corner of the driveway edges crumbles, or a section of pavers starts rocking underfoot where it never did before.

We carry Atlas-compatible edge restraints, replacement pavers in common San Antonio tones, bedding sand, and jointing compound on our trucks, so the first trip usually solves the problem. We are an independent San Antonio contractor, not affiliated with Atlas, but we work with their product lines regularly because they hold up well in Texas clay soil when the base is right.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas driveway and paver systems share components across their residential product lines, which is good news for San Antonio homeowners searching for parts. The concrete pavers come in standard modular sizes: 4×8, 6×6, 6×9, and 8×8 inches, with most driveways using the 6×9 or 8×8 format. Thickness matters more than most people expect. Driveway pavers need to be 60mm (about 2-3/8 inches) thick to handle vehicle weight. Patio and walkway pavers run 40mm to 50mm, and if someone installed a thinner paver on a driveway originally, that is exactly why they are cracking now.

To identify your Atlas paver, flip one over. Many Atlas pavers have a mold stamp on the bottom face. If there is no stamp, measure the height and bring us a photo with a coin or tape measure for scale. We can match the size, the edge profile, and usually the color family. The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision for Atlas parts is straightforward: edge restraints and jointing compound have quality aftermarket equivalents that perform the same, but the pavers themselves should come from Atlas’s current production because color and surface texture differ enough between manufacturers that a substitute paver will read as a patch for years.

One compatibility gotcha worth knowing: Atlas changed their color blends around 2019, so a charcoal paver bought in 2017 is not the same charcoal being sold new today. In San Antonio sun, pavers fade anyway, but a brand-new paver placed next to a 6-year-old one ages differently. We can often pull pavers from a less visible section of your own driveway to repair the prominent area, then place the new pavers where the eye does not land first. That trick is the difference between a repair you notice and one you forget about.

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sinking or dipping pavers, usually near the edges. The most common cause in San Antonio is base erosion. Our clay-heavy soil expands and contracts through dry summers and wet winters, and a base that was never deep enough eventually gives way. Catch this early and the repair is a reset, not a replacement.
  • Rocking or wobbling paver underfoot. When bed sand washes out or compacts unevenly, the paver loses its seat. It may look fine, but if it moves when you step on it, water is getting underneath and the problem will spread to the neighboring pavers.
  • Crumbling edges or broken corners. Atlas pavers are dense, but repeated vehicle loads on an unsupported edge will stress-fracture them. If you see chips along the driveway border, the edge restraint has likely failed or shifted, and the pavers are absorbing pressure they were never meant to take.
  • Weeds or ants pushing up between joints. Jointing sand does not last forever, especially with San Antonio’s monsoon-season downpours. When the joints empty out, the interlocks weaken and the whole surface loses its structural grip. A paver driveway is only as strong as its joints.
  • Standing water that used to drain. If puddles form in places that used to dry, the slope has changed. Usually that means a section of the base has settled unevenly. Water sitting on pavers accelerates erosion underneath, so the repair window shrinks the longer it is ignored.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled staircase with wood treads and a slim metal railing

For San Antonio Atlas driveway and paver work, here is the pricing we quote and stand behind:

  • Paver replacement (resetting a sunken section, 20-60 sq ft): $700 – $2,500 installed
  • Edge restraint repair or replacement: $250 – $800 installed
  • Re-sanding and joint compound application: $300 – $900 for a typical two-car driveway
  • Full section rebuild with new base where erosion was severe: $2,500 – $5,000 installed

Every quote is written before any work starts, and the price you sign is the price you pay. If we pull up a paver and find the base is worse than we thought, we stop, show you the condition, and put the new number in writing before cutting any further. No line items added after the fact. Labor, haul-off of old material, new bedding sand, and fresh jointing compound are included in every San Antonio paver repair we do. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a paver we reset settles within the first year, we come back and redo it. That is the whole promise, no fine print.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an Atlas owner can safely check, but we will be honest about where this goes wrong. You can look for a shifting edge restraint, lifted paver corners that catch a shoe, and joints that have emptied of sand. Those are diagnoses. The repair itself is heavy, dusty, and unforgiving on the back: 60mm driveway pavers weigh about 12 to 14 pounds each, and to reset a sunken section you have to pull every paver around it, re-grade and compact the base in lifts, re-bed the sand, and re-compact. Do it halfway and the paver sinks again in eighteen months. San Antonio sun also turns the work brutal by mid-morning six months of the year. If the failing section is larger than a bath mat, call (432) 233-0976. We will come look, write the price down, and keep the mess outside where it belongs.
